Qualification as Development Player and Human Right Defender :
Sri Sukumar Singh was born in Calcutta, India in the first day of January, 1954 and started his life exposure days since teenage in the slums and pavements of Calcutta. Soon he was involved in Social Action field to promote justice and human rights. He has extensively traveled all around rural India and various other countries of the World and discovered real life situation of the people. Sri Singh has written several books on social issues to his credit and he is a regular contributor to several local journals. Currently He is residing in Calcutta, Founded Mass Education and several other development initiatives in the year 1976.
As Social interventionist and Human Right Defender’s Singh has self educated himself and completed several courses on "Community Organization & Development " also completed Field Exposure Trip cum Training in Philippines in 1981 and visited NGOs in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia for interaction in social development issues and programme during 1982 to 1990. During the period 1994 to 2003 he has visited NGOs i.e. Novib (Holland), Terre des Hommes (France), Terre des Hommes (Switzerland), Danielle Mitterrand Foundation (France), CCFD (France), Emmaus International (France) & SME (France) for development dialogue and project funding. Sri Singh has participated in World Social Forum in Brazil and workshops of "Human Right Defender Summit" held in Paris in December '98. During the first half of 1999, He also attended development exposure meet of NGOs in China, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Initiated Micro Finance Activities:
Initiated micro-finance activities through formation of SHG's and its network, with the assistance from RMK (Rashtriya Mahila Kosh - Govt. of India) since its inception in the year 1993, 2000 SHGs have been formed with turn over of Rs. 20 million each year. SIDBI, NMDFC, HUDCO & National Backward Classes Finance & Development Corporation - Govt. of India were also associated in the programme of empowerment.
Support Service Activities :
Under the support service delivery activities 50 Primary & 5 High schools have been set up for 15000 children since the year 1978, 100 bedded Hospital with modern facilities, 100 of Ambulance services at the remote distance, 210 houses, 3500 low cost latrines, building up roads, culverts, excavation of ponds, plantation of trees, provision of safe drinking water through sinking of 225 deep-tube wells, etc. in various projects have been successfully implemented.
Sri Sukumar Singh is also author of several Books, paper and documents.
