VANI is working with existing
members in the state to establish a network.
After surveying NGOs and networks in the state
and a series of consultations and workshops to
determine common issues facing the voluntary
sector in the state, a steering committee was
formed in August 2005.

Updates
With an objective to provide a
forum for identifying strategies to link
systematically local level concerns to national
and state planning, VANI organised a one day
workshop on ‘Right to Information Act and National
Guarantee Act’ on 20, 27 and 29 March 2006 in
Simdega, Jamshedpur and Hazaribaag, respectively.
Apart from this, the first volume of newsletter
was published and circulated to 500 partners
including academics, institutions and voluntary
sector.

Foreign
Contribution and Management Control Bill, 2005
NGOs in the
state have reviewed and discussed the implications
of the bill and are opposing it.
Re-registration of Society
The state
government of Bihar’s notification requiring
re-registration of NGOs has created a stir amongst
NGOs in Jharkhand. Voluntary organisations in
Jharkhand have come under one umbrella to fight
against the decisions taken by the Societies
Registration Department.
Identity
of the organisation
NGOs in
Jharkhand face an identity crisis. Improving the
image of the sector is one of the network’s
priorities.
Activities:
Collaborating
with and strengthening different networks in the
state;

Meeting with
bureaucrats and politicians to improve relations
between government and NGOs;

Firming up the
membership and organisation of the network and
its registration;

Compiling
information on government schemes and improving
information dissemination through setting up a
resource centre and a newsletter.
