BIHAR
VANI is reviving and strengthening
an already existing network, the Association for
Bihar Voluntary Agencies (ABVA). After a series of
consultations and discussions at the state level,
it was decided that the existing but dormant
network should be revived rather than forming a
new one.
The strategy for Bihar is to
consult all the members of ABVA as
well as other
major organisations in the |
 |
state to create a state level
platform. In a recently conducted workshop
about 250 organisations in the state witnessed for
the first time the coming together of Bihar’s
major networks (CNRI, BVHA, ABVA and VANI). An
initiative has been taken to form a joint platform
of CNRI, BVHA and ABVA. |
Update
Activities have kicked off at the Association of
Bihar Voluntary Agencies (ABVA). ABVA organised a
thematic workshop on ‘Development of Bihar: Roles
and Responsibilities and Strategy for the
Voluntary Sector’ where more than 245 participants
from various sectors participated. It has also
been involved in generating awareness on panchayat
elections held in the months of March and April
2006.
State-specific
issues
Foreign Contribution and Management
Control bill, 2005
NGOs in the state have reviewed and
discussed the implications of the bill and are
opposing it.
Identity of the
Sector
One of the major issues facing NGOs
in Bihar is their image, which hinders their
healthy growth. The sector wants to improve their
image before the people and government.
The issue of transparency and governance is also on the agenda, as
well as issues like flood, draught and livelihood.
Activities:
-
Regular meetings with existing
members of VANI to discuss and implement ways to
form a state platform of NGOs;
-
Formation of various committees;
-
General body meeting of ABVA;
-
Thematic workshops and voters’
awareness campaign;
-
Publication of a newsletter.
