Note on MA in Participatory Development

From July 2010, IGNOU and PRIA are launching Masters Programme, which is modular in structure. Within a minimum period of two years and a maximum of five years learners can complete either one or all of the following :

  • Six month PG Certificate in Participatory Development
  • One year PG Diploma in Participatory Development
  • Eighteen month Advanced Diploma in Participatory Development
  • and Two Year PG Degree in Participatory Development

Combining theory with practice and field placement, this programme will prepare professionals who can manage development projects at district and state levels. This programme will also enable development practitioners to upgrade their professional competence, thereby improving their career prospects.

The programme is offered in a distance mode, making learning accessible through part time study, outside working hours. Distance delivery includes print materials, audio-visual CDs, guest faculty and immediate and engaged communication through web enabled bulletin board service.The course work is spread over 12 courses, 10 theoretical courses and 2 courses of field assignments. It will include supervised involvement of the student in existing interventions of the IGNOU PRIA Field Placement Centers (IPFPC), around participatory processes.

Candidates who possess a Bachelors’ Degree in any discipline are eligible to apply. It is open for people working or interested in working for inclusive development. The participants can be fresh graduates, mid-career development professionals or young professionals with limited practical experience.

The course includes four semesters , and the students have to pay Rs 6250 per semester. Interested applicants can apply for the programme by filling the Application form (in hard copy) .
